Around the world, places are beginning to slowly reopen after lockdowns and closures as a result of the COVID19 pandemic. For many people, this means that traveling is possible again, albeit with extra restrictions and measures in place in order to protect guests from the coronavirus. If you have decided that a trip somewhere is well overdue and are going to stay in a hotel, it’s worth knowing what hotels are doing in order to keep you and your fellow guests safe during these uncertain times. Here are some of the measures that many hotels are taking to offer extra protection.
Social Distancing:
Social distancing guidelines are in force in most hotels around the world, with guests asked not to get within six feet of others. You might find that this has caused some changes to the way that hotel communal areas are run, with outdoor spaces having sun loungers placed further away from each other than usual and restaurants serving food differently and seating guests further apart from each other. Some hotel restaurants are also using clear room dividers between tables to provide a protective barrier between each guest.
Mask Wearing:
It’s likely that you will be asked to wear a face-covering in all areas of the hotel except for when you are in your room unless you have an underlying health condition that means you are exempt from doing so. This is especially true in states where mask-wearing is now mandated and you will not be allowed to enter the hotel if you are not wearing a mask without a valid reason. Wearing a mask not only protects you from coronavirus but it also reduces the risk of spreading it to other people so the more people wear masks, the safer everybody will be.
Temperature Checks:
Some hotels are asking customers to undergo a temperature check before entering the premises. The check should only take a few seconds and is used to determine if you have a normal temperature or if there is any risk of you running a fever which is a common early symptom of COVID19. You may not realize that your temperature is high if it has not become uncomfortably so, making this an ideal way for hotels to determine if any potential guests are high risk. If you’re traveling a long distance to a hotel then it’s worth taking your own temperature before you leave just to be sure.
Cleaning:
Finally, any good hotel will take cleaning very seriously but right now, the pandemic means that cleaning has to be more important than ever. Chances are that your room is going to be cleaned more regularly than you are used to, and you will see the communal areas of the hotel being deep-cleaned more often. Areas that are frequented a lot by the guests like elevators and communal kitchen areas should be deep cleaned multiple times a day.
The COVID19 pandemic put a stop to travel plans for many of us this year. But if you can’t wait any longer, the good news is that most good hotels have stringent measures in place to keep you safe.
