How important is exercise to you? When you have a healthy lifestyle, that includes regular exercise, it can be rather disheartening to go on vacation or travel for work, because your daily routine is disrupted. You work hard to form healthy habits; the airport hotels and airports are becoming more and more aware of this. As well as, understanding the benefits of gentle exercise before a flight, such as mental wellness and improved circulation.
Airports and their local hotels are continually trying to adapt to the needs of their traveling customers and adding gyms and yoga rooms are becoming a popular way to show their interest in your health. It is particularly important as the USA continues to drop down the list of healthiest countries in the World. Most recently, (2019) the USA was placed 35th behind Chile and Costa Rica.
The three states with the most Airport Gyms are California (20), Texas (19) and Florida (18). Which is great if you live in these areas. But there are still 15 states that don’t have a single airport or local hotel with a gym. I wonder, will this change over the next couple of years?
Where are the Best Airport Gyms, in the USA?
Let’s take a look at where the best places are to get a workout, before boarding your flight.
Chicago O’Hare International Airport
In Terminal 3, on the Mezzanine Level of the Chicago O’Hare International airport, by the Urban Garden passengers can relax, reflect and recharge in the free yoga room. It is open daily from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. Passengers can also visit Hilton Chicago O’Hare Hotel, which can be accessed via an underground path from terminal 1, 2 and 3. For a day pass of $20 you can use the entire fitness center, including the free weights, lap pool, steam room, and sauna.

Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport
There are two yoga studios at DFW Airport. They can be found in the hallway that connects terminals B and D and also in plot E31. Yoga mats are provided and a yoga video runs on a loop to guide you through your stretches and meditation.
Also, within the terminal, there is a gym at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in Terminal D. Along with your usual gym facilities they have an outdoor heated pool and sauna. A Day Pass costs $30, plus tax, and is valid from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport
Westin Detroit Metropolitan Airport Hotel is within Terminal A and is open 24 hours a day. When it comes toa variety of apparatus and cost this may be the best airport gym, as a day pass is only $15. The gym includes free weights, treadmills, an elliptical machine, bikes, a pool, and a jacuzzi.
Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport
While the St Paul International Airport in Minneapolis doesn’t have a gym, it does have a 1.4 mile walking path, for passengers to stretch their legs. It is located at the Lindbergh Terminal, and starts at the intersection of the C and D concourses.
That’s not all, because there is a fitness centre in the nearby Holiday Inn, called Appletree. A day pass is only $10, and there is a free shuttle bus from the airport. So, if you have a long layover this could be a great opportunity to work out.
