Baltimore Museum of Art
All-day, every day, the Baltimore Museum of Art is free. It’s open 10 am-5 pm and it has the World’s largest collection of Matisse.
The museum was founded in 1914 with a single painting, however today it home to 95,000 international works of art. You will experience European masterpieces, American paintings, and sculptures and one of the most important African collections in the USA, which includes objects from ancient Egypt.
For something special visit on Free Family Sundays, from 2-5 p.m. for free art-making workshops. Each month has a different theme:
- October: Generations
- November: Portraits
- December: Zoom In Zoom Out
Fort McHenry National Monument and Historic Shrine
Explore the park grounds and monuments of Fort McHenry, on a self-guided tour and delve into the past.
This is an important attraction, for the city, as it keeps the history of the 1814 Battle of Baltimore for all to learn about.
Fort McHenry sparked inspiration in Francis Scott Key when he wrote “The Star-Spangled Banner. See what inspiration it gives you and your family.
Enjoy the flag changing sessions every day at 9:30 a.m. and 4:20 p.m.
Enoch Pratt Free Library
As well, as being a place to sit and read through thousands of books, the local monument of literature, Enoch Pratt Free Library, is a beautiful building, perfect for admirers of architecture.
It also holds multiple monthly events including movie screenings, poetry writing workshops, and storytime sessions.
Opening times: Mon-Thurs 10:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m, Fri-Sat 10:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m and Sun 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m.
American Visionary Art Museum
Museum Admission is free on October 30, 4 pm-7 pm. You can explore the latest AVAM exhibition, The Secret Life of Earth: Alive! Awake! Whether you have kids or you want to do something memorable, definitely check out the workshops at the American Visionary Art Museum. Events include:
- Free Fall Halloween Celebration (October 30, 4 pm-7 pm) Free Monster Mash-Up Workshop! Boos and ghouls of all ages are invited to create their own paper monster! All templates, markers and sparkly bits provided.
- BAZAART Holiday Art Market (November 29 & 30, midday – 6 pm) – Discover the original creations of regional artists and craftspeople.
- Sock Monkey Saturday (December 7, 10 am – 2 pm) – bring your own socks (2 pairs) and scissors.
- Winter Solstice Yoga Celebration (Sunday, December 22, 6 pm) – free but you need to register.
Travel for Free
It is possible to walk around Baltimore and enjoy all the free activities. But if you want to travel in a faster way we suggest the Charm City Circulator. The city has a fleet of 30 free shuttles at your disposal, to find the routes click here. Whichever stop you are waiting at the bus will arrive every 10 -15 minutes.
Baltimore’s Inner Harbor
As one of America’s oldest seaport, the Baltimore Inner Harbor is a must-visit destination on your next trip to the city. A recent refurbishment has blended the new with old seamlessly. In the area, you can explore and see historic ships and skyscrapers.

Take a stroll in Patterson Park
If you enjoy nature and history take a walk through Patterson Park, which is over 300 years old. It is especially beautiful in the fall when the many trees look stunning with shades of green, brown and yellow.
The park hosts events throughout the year, see which ones coincide with your visit, on the Friends of Patterson Park calendar. The next main event is The Great Halloween Lantern Parade and Festival on October 26th, 3:30 pm – 8:30 pm.
Maryland Science Center
Science is always fun at the Maryland Science Center! Learn about dinosaurs, space travel and enjoy live science experiments on the demo stage.
It’s free for ASTC passport holders and Bank of America®, Merrill® or Bank of America Private Bank® credit or debit cardholders, but only during the first weekend of the month.
